There are several choices facing you when the time comes to change the look of your floor. Carpet, hardwood, tile, laminates and vinyl are the popular choices. For sheer beauty, a combination can help provide that special look.
Carpeting is probably the most commonly used floor covering and comes in a variety of colors, patterns and textures. Whether it is wall-to-wall or an area rug, the carpeting can be the foundation from which the fabrics, paint, wallpaper and furniture colors originate. For those of you who would like to add drama and excitement to a den or living room but have conservative tastes, begin with the carpeting. It is below eye level so you won’t have to be concerned about the room being too dark or feeling closed-in. You can “test the water” without going overboard. For the nervous homeowner, this is a great place to add “OOMPH” to a room.
Hardwood flooring planks come in widths ranging from 2½ to 8 inches. Many people will select a plank size, a degree of wood grain, an overall stain color and then stop. It is interesting to note how space in a large room can be delineated by using contrasting color and/or design. In order to create a warm feeling to a seating area, a rug is often added. As an alternative, you can install a mosaic medallion in tile, or do inlay work in a wood floor. I believe that an espresso brown perimeter with a blond wood interior would give you the “wow” factor. Should you take my advice the result will fire-up your sense of beauty, not your fear of commitment.
Underneath it all is a blank canvas, now paint your picture.
